What i mean is, I have my 4 character slots full with PvE characters that i do not want to delete. Its great that i can make a free account and play with the assassin and ritualist, but with this free account i will have to unlock any skills i may want to use in my secondary proffession again. I also do not benefit from the time i put in when using this free account , as i will add chapter 2 onto my first account, anybody with a pvp slot will keep any skills that they unlock with Rit or Ass for use when chap 2 comes out properly. I just wanna hear your feelings on this and find out if anybody else is thinking the same as me.

I think it said somewhere in there that people with accounts will be able to change their existing character's secondary professions to the new classes for the Event. So you will be able to unlock the skills you want on your main account, as long as you don't mind changing one of your character's classes for the event.

NO
it stated that there would be no restoral of existing accounts and any changes deletions etc will be permanent.
any new skills unlocked will stay locked until retail purchase

Finished the game with 6 PVE characters (erased 2). I myself have 4 PVE characters that i use for PVP. I like the others wont erase one of my 4 PVE slots because i have too much time and money invested in each character.
I have already erased 2 characters with 15k armor, all skills unlocked. PVP characters are too limited for me to waste a space on, and the storage space is far too small. Im not buying 2 accounts because it doesnt make sence to aquire faction on more than one account.
So i guess this will be the first extreme weekend im going to have to miss out on. I wish that every account had acess to a pvp slot (not taking up one of the 4 character slots). I find PVE characters have an advantage over pvp characters. Plus you can use them throughout the game, not just condemded to ca, ta, and tombs.
So it looks like im not the only one who uses all 4 PVE slots for PVP. I really think adding a PVP-(unerasable) slot to everyones account would make a lot of happy customers.
Although I will spend money on the update..i wont purchase the game again to try the new characters. Guess i will just have to adapt my four characters that i have to counter them.

um, will the previews of assasain and ritualist go away after the temporary update? also this means they will have to rename the mantle necros fro white mantle ritualist to white mantle something?

Oh, and players may want to pay close attention to the game world in the days preceding the event; things are changing in many interesting ways.
I wonder what that means? Any guesses, eh?
|
It probably means that every once in a while til' the 20th, ArenaNET will keep adding new content to prepare for the Factions PvP event (e.g. the new Zaishen henchmen at ToPK). Maybe they'll add more content 2-4 times in the next 6 days (til' the 20th)?

You need the key if you're in one of two different situations:
1) You have no Guild Wars account
2) You have a Guild Wars account but no free slots and you don't want to delete one of your characters.
If you are in one of these two situations, do the following:
Start Guild Wars, but don't log in. Instead choose "Create Account" at the bottom left. Enter the key, then an email address and a password. When the demo event starts, log in to this account rather than the regular one.
The skills you might unlock, and the faction and fame you might acquire won't be saved on your regular account, but you can still try out the new professions and the new arenas.

I actually added the key to my account and the event is now showing up in the same list as the "pre-order" items.
I have it on my account now, and it's a bit of wait and see for me. I hope I get a temp 5th slot or the ability to do the pvp weekend w/ current character, if not (aka not deleting any of the 4 slots) I will stay tuned to these boards for screenshots and reports

Hmm as I see it, if you have 4 PVE characters that you dont want to delete, like me, then you will only really have time to see the PVE side of GWFactions, because you will have to set up an entirely new account, and any character you start there will be level 1 and without skills, so joining PVP would be rather futile, since you will be a level 1 +(amount of levels you can manage to grind in 2 days) for the PVP content of GWFactions.
How much fun is going into a PVP battle against fully elite skilled level 20s, with your own underskilled level 1-10 character ??
Man what a let down, sorry Anet but you are dropping the ball on this fast, if you want the die hard PVE players, like me, to join the ranks of PVP, why do you deliberatly create this skewed, ridiculous intro to it, by either forcing us to delete characters that may or may not have unlocked all their skills yet, or create a level 1 and enter battle islands with a completely undergunned, underskilled character ?
I can hear the screams already, n00b this and n00b that when a level 10 tries to finally join the PvP sunday 4 hours before closing time, yep that is just sure to turn on all the die hard PVE'ers to PVP, not.

where do you get the crazy idea you can reroll as as/ri in presearing?
there's not going to be a way to be an as/ri unless it's a pvp...
so i suggest you use the key to register a NEW account, make pvp's as much as you want, and go have some fun...

So what you are saying is, that I should go have fun with a level 1-10 character on the PvP islands ??
Or that I should go have fun with a level 20 PVP character, who have no skills unlocked what so ever, on the PVP battle islands ?

How will I get Assassin or Ritualist skills during the Guild Wars: Factions Global Free-For-All PvP Weekend?
You will start with a limited number of skills for the profession that you choose, and you will be able to acquire more skills through the unlocking process based on the gain of Faction during PvP gameplay.

I dont understand, you arent being forced to delete characters at all. Just make a new account with the access key they have provided. Since you are such a dedicated PvE player, faction should not mean much right ? Besides that, ANet has said that there will be more preview events leading up to the launch, perhaps one of them will cater more to pure PvE players ? Also, why get so riled up over a preview that will probably be of no consequence ?

Question
How do I get a key for the Guild Wars Global PvP Free-For-All Weekend?
Answer
Thanks for asking about our upcoming event! We will be providing keys on the official website, http://www.guildwars.com/, starting the afternoon of Friday, January 13, 2006. All gamers are invited to join the event, whether they are Guild Wars account holders or not.
One regional key will be distributed for each of the American and European regions. This means that there's no need to worry about having a separate key for yourself and each friend who wants to play; all those from America will use a single key and all those from Europe will use another single key. The keys will be distributed via the official website, but you're also free to share with friends via e-mail.

Answer
Character slots will remain at four for this event. However, you are welcome to use one of the global access keys to create a second account, if you wish. Additionally, those with a PvP character slot are invited to create a new PvP character using the new professions: The Assassin or The Ritualist.

Yes Loviatar I fully understand that this is a PVP weekend, and I was looking forward to trying it out, but as I understand it, unless I delete one of my 4 PVE chars, I will have to create a new account with the new regional key, wich means that I would enter PVP with an undergunned, underskilled characters versus elite skilled runes+ characters right ??
That sounds excatly like the ascalon arena to me, people of even level but of vastly uneven skill/armor/rune level, am I right ??
(edit) I guess Im allowed to use my PVE chars on the new PVP islands, so I dont have to go in completely naked after all, and I guess I can wait to try out the new assassin and ritualist proffesions till a later date, its not all bad.
